What Is Goth Style
Goth style is first and foremost about freedom of expression and portraying one's individuality. The Goth lifestyle is very popular. Teens are into it, but you may be surprised to learn that people in their twenties and older are adopting it too. The biggest aspects of Goth dress are clothing, hair style, make-up, and accessories.
The most common aspect of clothing associated with Goth fashion is the use of all- or mostly-black outfits, usually combined with distinct accessories, such as fishnet or velvet tights and heavy pewter jewelry. Although black is still the most commonly used clothing color among Goths, dark or bright jewel tones are being used more often to contribute to the feel of punk rock, the subculture from with the Goth style originated.
We can't forget the hair, another important aspect of Goth style. As the part of the body most easily adapted to style and expression, it has a lot of potential and can be worn in endless ways. Goths usually either dye their hair or sport wigs.
Colors vary widely, ranging anywhere from black to pink, but typically the hair is limited to a single flat color... or else a color that contrasts sharply with big highlights. "Subtle" is not a word that applies to Goth hairstyles. As for hair styles, they include partially shaved heads, Mohawks, angled cuts, bobs, and long, blunt cuts. You'll see everyone from girls, boys, women, and men wearing these hair styles.
Goth style make-up also includes a lot of black. Look into a Goth make up kit and you will probably find dark mascara, black liquid eye liner, and even black lipstick in there. Wearing make-up to enhance one's originality is something done by men and women alike. You'll often see white foundation or cheek color used for creating contrast. Sometimes a Goth will add color in the form of colored false lashes or dark red lipstick.
